Is Drug Dosage(class) hard?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I have to take Drug Dosage this summer and I have heard terrible horror stories on this class. Has anyone taken it? What kind of math is in it? Maybe I can brush up on something before it starts. What could I go over that would help me in the class. Thanks. :uhoh21:

here is an example of a question that was just on our med test for the semester:

You need to give a patient 8ml of medicine. the mec X comes in a vial marked 2ml in 1 cc. How many cc's of med X would you give the patient??

1cc X cc's

____ = ____

2ml 8ml

now you will cross multiply: 2x=8 X=4 cc's of said med

obviously the numbers won't always be that easy but you get the idea.

HUH? :crying2:

I do ratio and porportion and it seems alot easier... ex.

2ml:1cc::8ml:x

2x=8

x=4cc

I just did a take home test in Pharm. and it had IV drip rates, which we haven't done all semester, I had to go back and refresh. Any way, don't get flustered that is when you end up getting confused .

Ah, Math for Meds! I'm taking it right now and it's not so bad as long as you memorize the conversions and PRACTICE! I keep doing the review problems over and over, and wer'e also given 2 practice exams to take home. Just make sure that you understand the method your instructor is teaching you (there are several) and don't try to change methods because you think it might be easier another way. It would be way too confusing! Wish me luck. I have my final exam tomorrow!
