Pre-nursing job options?

Published

I have just recently applied to a local Nursing Program in Texas. I have completed all of my pre-requisites and even have an AA in Kinesiology. I am currently working as an Ophthalmic Tech, but their hours will not allow me to work and attend school simultaneously, so I have started a new job search for something with flexible hours around my school schedule.

I would prefer to stay in the medical field, and would like to get some ideas of places to focus my efforts. I imagine that Tech jobs would really be all I am qualified for, still. I don't suppose the Nursing pre-req courses are considered equivalent to that of a CNA program, right?

Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Some in home care agencies will hire you, even without being a CNA (and some will pay for you to become one.) It depends on the state and what the agency does exactly. Some jobs are more companion type care, rather than CNA tasks.

Also, check our your school's work-study program. Work-study is very conducive to a student schedule and understands that school is the #1 priority.

I was just about to suggest the same. I have a 20 hr/week work study job that I love. I volunteer at the hospital on women's care as a part of my work study hours. So I'm still getting a little bit of experience in a medical setting even if I'm just cleaning cribs and folding baby blankets. :)

Work-study is amazing! I do an on-campus job that is pretty unrelated to the medical field, but off campus can be great for work experience.
