Practical Nursing Jobs Ontario

Hey folks. I am a RPN student at a college in Ontario, closer towards the city. I was wondering if anyone has insight on how hard it is to get a job after graduation and how long it took them. I am entering my last year and have heard conflicting things. Naturally I'm worried about this. Preferably I would like to get a job in the city or 1-2 hours outside. Thank you!

Also where did you get your job? Long term care, acute care etc?

I finished the program Nov 2/15 and began applications everywhere, in all types of facilities. Passed the CPNRE in January. Graduated with honours, took additional courses in IV, taking blood and my coronary care 1. I work for over 10 years previously as a Paramedic and know for a fact I have a really good resume and cover letter (I took it to several employment agencies/help centers).

With all that being said it took me until June to get hired. I put out well over 100 resumes and only received 2 interviews. The only reason I received those were due to "cold calling" by phone and person to HR departments, managers, nurses I met I the community and any type of connection I could find.

Most of my classmates were in the same boat or were fortunate enough to have a consolidation that translated into a New Grad.(but be warned about new grads, most of them are posted with a candidate already in place, so call the location before you waste you time writing a cover letter and resume for a job already taken) The market is really tough!!!

If you can relocate, consider Northern Nursing (Sault Lookout), I know some people that went up there and are gaining phenomenal experience!!!

All the best as you finish school and join the job hunt í ½í¸‰
