postpartum nursing diagnosis for mom and baby

Published

I have the assignment to come up with nursing diagnosis for a mother and a baby. I need one for all 7 systems(Neuro, Cardiac, Resp, GI, GU, Mus/Skel, integ). I have most of the mothers(except Resp) but the baby is really hard. She was very normal without any apparent problems. Our instructor told us not to use Risk of infection r/t umbilical cord.

Any help is great. Thanks

Oh man, that is a sucky assignment lol especially if the baby is healthy! Can they be potentials or risks? CNS: Risk of SIDS? CVS: transition from fetal circulation? Resp: GI: Is mom breastfeeding? Formula feeding?

Skin: skin integrity, skin care

M/S: tone

Things to consider when doing NANDA's for baby... What was the baby's gestational age? if early..there are some easy NANDA's if baby was fullterm then where there any complications with the delivery (shoulder dystocia, problems with the umbilical cord, problems with the placenta, positioning of the baby--breach, etc.--, second stage of labor lasting longer than 2 hours, etc.) knowing about the delivery can help form NANDA's for baby, and mom for that matter. Another thing to look at is mom's nutrition/health during pregnancy--did she have gestational DM, Preeclampsia, eclampsia, did she have prenatal care, ect. I hope this helps :-) Good Luck.
