postpartum/antipartum nursing

Published

Hi.

I've been a geriatric nurse for the last 8 years or so and I'm looking for a new challenge. I was feeling ambitious so I set about applying for a position in NICU and was learning and working towards getting a job there. I had an interview today and was encouraged to spend some time in the postpartum/antipartum area of the hospital first in order to learn the basics of neonatal care because of my lack of experience in acute care and pediatrics. I'm okay with that idea and I was actually thinking of going into the other branches of ob/gyn if the NICU search didn't pan out.

Can you tell me more about what I need to know to nurse well in this very different area (my L&D rotation was 11 years ago!), and some resources I can use to learn.
