Waiting on a letter from Yale(GEPN) and Columbia(ETP)???

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hello fellow hopefuls!! I was just wondering if any of you are waiting on a interview letter for Yale's Fall 2006 GEPN Program or Columbia's Summer ETP program???

The waiting is unbearable!

I am also waiting for Vanderbilt's letter, too, but I don't expect that one until next year some time...

Also, anyone who has been recently accepted or turned down for these programs (last year) can you please shed some light on when you received notification?????

THANKS!!!!!!!

I got my Columbia ETP acceptance letter the second week of February. The acceptance letters are really skinny, just like rejection letters are, so don't freak out right away!

Hi Lovingpecola,

I received a letter from Yale asking me to interview on Jan. 19th for the GEPN program. I live in the New Haven area and received the letter on December 21st.

As for Columbia, we will not hear anything until February. Columbia does not conduct interviews.

Good luck and I hope to see you on the 19th!!

Thanks so much guys for answering! I haven't heard from Yale yet, I'm a little worried...but I am also not local, and all my mail is being forwarded, so I guess that could add time...if anyone gets a rejection from Yale, could you please post that, too, so I can know when those started to come out as well...

CONGRATULATIONS Krystellmarie!!!!

Hi lovingpecola,

I received an invitation to interview at Yale for the GEPN last week, probably around the 22nd of December. It's an interview for January 23rd.

Hope to see you then!

YAY!!! I *finally* got an interview letter...it was postmarked for the 19th of December and the darn thing did not arrive until NEW YEAR'S EVE!!!!!!!!!

My interview is set for January 23rd as well! We'll have to meet.

krystellmarie and juber which specialties are you two going for?

I applied for Midwifery...

congratulations lovingpecola and juber22!!!

i applied for the family nurse practitioner track.

where are you two coming from? how are the preparations for the interview going?

good luck to you both!!

i am coming from nebraska and nervous as all get out!

*are you going to stay with students, or in the hotel?

*are you going to the gepn potluck?

i asked a girl who has been graciously answering my questions throughout this process what her interview was like, here is the transcript (answers in red):

did they interview more people than they had spaces

for (ie: was it an elimination interview)?

yes, they do. there are 2 or 3 days of interviews.

it seems weird that we have an orientation and meet

with financial aid to discuss financial aid packages

for one hour, when we haven't been accepted yet???

it makes sense, because it really gives you more of an

idea of what the costs are and how you are going to

pay for them (ie scholarships, loans, what you are

expected to come up with yourself).

how did people dress for their interviews?? (suits??)

they were all over the place, from casual to suits. i,

personally, wore a suit.

how was your individual interview? it was pretty good.

a little weird. i had to wait for the interviewer to

get off the phone, so it ended up starting 45 minutes

late! that peeved me a bit, but i don't believe it

effected my interview.

how was the overall interview process for you? it was

good. i enjoyed seeing the school and meeting the

students. i came away with mixed feelings about the

school, but overall positive. in the end, as you know,

i felt it was a better thing for me to stay in nyc

where i already had friends and family.

did they offer you admission at the end of the

interview session, or did you have to wait for an

acceptance letter? no. you have to wait. they call you

in a couple of weeks and let you know. you'll find out

before you get the letter.

That's awesome that you guys got invitations to interview! :) Congrats. I'm still waiting for my grad school to be (hopeful) to get my official GRE scores from the incredibly slow testing center! How frustrating. I'm about the least patient person when it comes to these things too, cuz I just want to know if I'm going to that school already! phew, glad to get that out! :) Best of luck to everyone! Wish me the same!

Lovingpecola,

Thanks for the info about the interview. I too am a bit anxious.

Wow - all the way from Nebraska! I just moved to the New Haven area this past May from Kansas City, Missouri.

Have you ever been out this way before?

Yep! I used to live in Washington DC, and I spent all of this past summer in Ithaca, NY at Cornell!!! and I have been to NYC, NY also.

What in the world took you from MO all the way to New Haven this year?? How do you like New Haven? (I've heard mixed reviews)

I talked to the lady at Columbia today because I wanted to visit Columbia while in the northeast, and she said I should probably wait for an admissions letter because (if accepted) I would have to come all the way back to NYC for visiting day the first week of March...

Hello Lovingpecola,

We moved to MO from Boston in 2001 so that my partner could spend some time near her family. She is orginally from there and went to school in Boston, where we met. I got a job out there and then transferred here with that company.

New Haven is okay. I really love the proximity to NYC, Boston and the ocean. The city itself has its really nice parts and its not so nice parts (I guess it's just like every other city in that way). Overall, it is a decent area.

Are you leaning more towards Yale or Columbia or somewhere else?

Talk to you soon,

Krystellmarie
