Direct Entry MSN Programs 2013

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Anyone on here applying to direct entry MSN programs that begin in summer or fall of 2013? I think I have finalized my list of programs to apply to, and I am beginning to get everything together to start applying this summer/early fall (I know this is rather early, but I'm a bit anxious and I was wondering if there was anyone else on this board who is just as excited as me!). I am pretty certain that I will be applying to UPenn, Yale, Johns Hopkins, Northeastern, University of Massachusetts, Boston College, Columbia, Vanderbilt, and Marquette. I am also applying to a few accelerated BSN programs in my state (Florida) - UCF and UF, for sure. I have all of my prerequisite courses completed, and currently have a 3.76, but my BS is still in progress and I have to retake the GRE this summer. I look forward to hearing from other people!

I am in a similar situation. I am deciding between Thomas Jefferson, Columbia, and Emory. I really liked TJU when I visited for my interview but I am concerned I wont be getting as good of an education there/ I don't really know much about how they stand as a nursing school (They have a great medical school). This is very tough!

Hi! I have been reading this thread for a while, but just decided to join because I have a few questions!

Has everyone who applied to BC heard back yet? I am starting to get nervous because I still haven't heard anything and it is one of my top schools!

Did anyone apply to UMass Worcester? I know they doing rolling admission and I didn't submit my application until right before the deadline, so maybe they are all full? Any thoughts?

Thanks! :)

Meep - I think that's up to you to decide! I'm not familiar with TJU because they don't have a direct-entry midwifery program, but I think you bring up good points - 50 or 100k is a LOT of money - 50k in loans probably means at least $600/month in loan payments, which can be rent in a lot of places! But if you have a high-paying nursing job, as we all expect to have, that's not as much of a concern. Where do you think you'll get a better job? A lot of schools publish placement rates (maybe all of them are required to now by law?) so take a look - if TJU has a 95% placement rate, just like Emory or Penn, then obviously people aren't hurting for getting jobs. Particularly in the NP-portion of these programs, I think clinicals are where you're gonna learn the most - so then are you paying 10's of thousands more for the classroom setting of Penn when you'll have the same clinical experience at either school? Or do you think you'll be better prepared to get the most out of clinical from Penn vs TJ? Call the schools and ask if there's a current student or recent alum in your program who would be willing to talk to you. My top choice changed after talking to people currently in the program at one of my schools who all, more or less, said, "If you're willing to leave this city and go somewhere else, you should do it." Ask a TJ alum if they felt equally prepared in clinicals to a Penn student - if they say absolutely, then hey, save some money! If they say we were horribly unprepared, then hey - that's something to think about!

I haven't heard back from BC either. I'm applying to FNP and I haven't heard of any acceptances for that specialty yet. So there's still hope :)

Thanks, hi616! I applied to the adult program. Anyone heard back about that yet?? And anyone for UMass?

This is so stressful! I've only heard from MGH so far, and it's hard to know if you should make these deposits since some schools take so long to release admission decisions!

I called BC and they said they are staggering the release of decisions and everyone should hear by March 1st.

Thanks! What other schools have you applied to? Did you hear from any of them yet?

I applied to Yale, BC, Vanderbilt, Northeastern, and UIC so far. I've only heard from Yale so far and that was a rejection so I'm very anxious!

This is beyond a frustrating process. Got accepted to a school wanting a deposit March 8th, while my interview at anotheris the 1st likely with a notification date after that. Ah!

Not everyone has heard back from BC yet... I heard yesterday but another good friend of mine has not heard back yet and she is an excellent applicant! So try not to worry!

It's so hard not to worry, but I'm trying not to! Haha I just heard from Simmons and got in, and they want a deposit by the 26th. I think that's insane!!

I just joined so I'm sorry if I'm repeating things that have already been talked about. I got my acceptance to Marquette on Feb 12 and acceptance to BC for peds on Feb 14. Definitely putting my money with BC over Marquette. I'm from Chicago and would love to meet anyone who thinks they're heading to BC!
