Currently at UPenn, but...

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

I'm currently an PMH-NP student at UPenn, slated to graduate in June/July of 2020. For reference, I am a traditional student (i.e. I got my BSN/RN, have been a nurse for a few years, now back in school part-time while working). My significant other recently was told that he'll have to relocate to California within the next six months (for the long term). We have discussed doing long distance for the year and some months that I have to finish the program-- but I am torn about whether or not I should consider transferring to an online program or a program out there. I have done some research and it doesn't seem like there are any west coast universities out there offering a PMH-NP that have the same caliber of experiences.

So this is a bit of a three-pronged question but I'd love some advice from anyone whose perhaps had to be away from their partner for an extended period of time due to NP school (or had to move) or who has transferred to another school halfway through...

My options are:

1) Stay at University of Penn, do the long distance thing for a year and some months, and go out there when I'm finished July 2020

2) Transfer to an online/west coast program and move out there

3) Quit school and try again some time later (not ideal )

Welcome to allnurses! :balloons:

My advice is that, if you were able to get into Penn (congrats!) and are happy with the program so far, stay there and finish the Penn program. Long distance relationships are do-able. Transferring between graduate programs in nursing isn't easy. Best wishes!
