I've been accepted to Pacific Lutheran University's Entry Level MSN program and I'm trying to decide whether to go. My end goal is to be an FNP, and I was thinking that even if I can't switch into PLU's FNP, I could get it later through a post-grad program. It occured to me that many programs might require a BSN for this, though, which I will have never done. Would my MSN from PLU's program trump this requirement, or am I going to get pigeon-holed?

I am in the same boat! I am about to graduate with a bachelors of science in human development, and then enter into an alternate entry Masters in Nursing program. My end goal is to be a nurse practitioner, and it seemed like I would be unable to get there without getting a BSN first...but with more research it seems like some schools have post-masters certification programs for those with a MSN to become a FNP. You might want to research certification programs like these :). Hope it helps! Let me know how it goes, and best of luck!!!

It will depend on the school. My university has post-Masters programs for those with MSNs. Some of the students in these programs are already Advanced Practice nurses looking for a second (or third) certification. Others have non-advanced practice MSNs (education, CNL, administration, etc) and are seeking NP or CNS certifications.
We have a Direct Entry MSN (CNL) program. Some of our graduates have entered post-masters programs elsewhere. However some other universities have made our graduates get a second MSN degree.

Just wondering what you ended up deciding?
