I work at an Assisted Living LTC unit. Tonight one of my patient's fell in the dining room and hit their head against the wall. I Did the incident report and post fall assesment, patient was fine for the rest of the evening, did 15 minute checks for the first hour, then every hour afterwards. I told my DON about the fall and head bump, she didn't say anything about doing a Neuro assesment sheet, (she's new and I'm not sure if she even knows), but are you suppose to fill out something other than the post fall/incident report?
Its important that you have done a thorough neuro check to your patient just after the incident. How has the other members of the health care team reacted? How is your patient now?
The patient is fine. The other staff thought that it sounded like a pretty hard bump. I did a very thourough assesment and he was doing well when I left last night at 11pm. The doctor and family was telephoned, so they were notified also.
