hello fellow colleagues,

i have inteview coming up for icu junior sister post and would need help in answering some possible interview questions that i have selected.

1- conflict resolution among staff, identifying approach and secondary support.

negotiation skills, mediation and knowledge of what support structures are available at your organisation. think dignity at work policies and how they may support your management.

2-resolving complants

the main push here is local resolution to prevent escalation to formal complaints, so it's about responding to your patients concerns at local level rather than ignoring situations that you have a feeling may turn into a complaint. addressing confrontational relatives and patients to find out what they see as the problem and try to address their concerns;

3-nhs plan and recent initiatives

look at the stafford enquiry.

how to provide a quality service in the current financial constraints, thinking about less waste, less infections reduction of hospital length of stay all helping to reduce costs and unintended outcomes (such as infections)

how the nhs management is changing.

4-finance management (nursing issues)

using your resources more efficiently, if your short staffed can you alter off duty, move staff around, use staff differently to ensure safe staffing levels rather than resorting to temporary staff.

5-clinical risk management

incident reporting and looking for patterns

identifying and reporting potential risks

education and training for staff

6-infection control

hand hygiene, challenging prescribing practice for antimicrobials

7-staff management

read your hr policies, seek advise from hr and senior management

8-what to do if a staff calls in sick.

see answer no4, don't just expect someone else to deal with it, this will be your responsibility to sort out as best you can then escalate it if you can't

9-change management

10-finance management (nursing issues:confused:)

thanks
