I am very stressed out about possibly being written up for time & attendance. Recently, I received an attendance "warning" (not write up) related to my attendance points- we have a system that tracks points over a year and tardy is 0.5 points & a call out is 1 point.
I have been working to clear my points, because after 6 months of no tardies or call outs your points go back to zero. However, I recently registered on a wait list for a CPR class at work. I never received an email or any notification that I was off the wait list, however I was reported as a no-show. According to our attendance policy, a missed class is regarded as a call out. Because of this, I will now have a formal write up and be automatically terminated if I have any tardies or absences in the next 6 months.
while I don't intend on doing so, I worry about incidentals! I have emailed my manager regarding the situation, but have not received an email reply (I am off work for a few days)
I am so stressed about this!
Any advice/ people who have been in a similar situation?
Best advice that I could give to anyone regarding attendance is that if you are not contagious with anything, If it's not a family emergency or something that truly prevents you from working, go in and push through. It is sad when managers will not bend rules for people who have unfortunate circumstances, but there's not much we can do other than our best. I have a chronic illness and I always just push through. I've gone to work in pain, with horrible headaches. I just go in and give my coworkers/superviser a heads up that I am not feeling well and they usually help me or are understabding if im moving slower or need a break. If I am contagious then I will stay home. Luckily I don't get contagious illnesses very often. But if I were to be susceptible to that I would look into my options to avoid being penalized. A lot of my coworkers call out for things like not getting enough sleep, headaches, procrastinating in school and needing the day off to catch up. What's worse is that tey tell me these things knowing that I won't say anything but it makes me angry, honestly..I don't see those as circumstances that should excuse an absence. It's not just about avoiding punishment but I think of my coworkers every time I don't feel well and want to call out. I think about how someone's going to have to come in on their day off, or stay a double. The last three days we were short because of call outs. It's understandable if it's a contagious illness or someone is so sick they cannot perform, or unforeseen circumstances. Those are different. But on the other hand if someone is always playing the, "car accident. Family emergency. Unforeseen circumstance" card, then i question their honesty. That's why I feel that attendance policies are important. They should be fair though, I agree with that.

I'd be looking for another job with better benefits. I've never heard of a nursing job with so few time offs. The place I'm at now you accrue 8 hours of vacation and 8 hours of sick time a month. After you've been there 3 years, each one goes up to 10 hours. Plus you accrue 12 holidays a year that you take when you want. At my previous job, I worked a set Friday-Sunday 13 hours and 20 minute shifts. Everything was the same except my 12 holidays were a day for a day. So I only worked 12 days a month on my schedule. And could take a full month off just on the 12 days of holiday time. Then my vacation time added another couple of weeks. And that left sick time for the rare times I was sick.
Even my friend that works for one of the Catholic owned hospitals with campuses across the US said they get over 12 PTO hours a month. The local Baptist own mega hospital with campuses across the nation gives 15 hours a month (200 a year). So there are lots of options for good pto benefits. Plus they both get holidays in addition.
