Portage CHEM 103 vs CHEM 121?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hello! I'm trying to decide between Portage's CHEM 103 or CHEM 121 as my program will accept either. Can anyone comment?

First choice would be to attend at a local CC, but I have to take this one online because of timing.  I haven't taken chemistry in years, so I just want to take the best option.

Thank you for your input!

I would think the lower level would be the less demanding but I couldn't say that with certainty. Also, Avila University offers online prereqs 4x a year at $275 a credit.  https://nursing.avila.edu/avila-admissions-requirements/nursing-program-prerequisites/

Thank you, @MsAtoZ, I will definitely look at the Avila courses!

Have you taken any at Avila? If so, which ones?

I have not, but when I spoke to one of the faculty members during the AACN Nursing School fair last week she mentioned it. I took A&P II and Chem at Rio Salado. I wish I hadn't because it didn't match my learning style and I received a C in both. They were self taught, no lectures, no videos or recordings, just textbook reading only.

@MsAtoZthis is so helpful to know. I'm sorry about your experience with Rio Salado wasn't as positive, but you should feel great that you taught yourself some hard courses.

That's a great way to look at it, but during I felt helpless. I would ask a question via email and they would say read the text.  I also took them both at the same time.  Really bad idea especially taking them there.

Are the exams proctored at Rio Salado ?

Yes, and you must average a 60% on the exams (not quizzes) to pass the course. You take them at a testing center.
