Poor GPA what route should I take

Published

Hi, I'm new here so any input is wonderful!

I am 24 and went to college for 2 years, 4 years ago and have 57 total hours! However, my first year of college I did great but my second I tranfered and went to a larger university and my grades suffered a lot! My GPA now is 2.3 which is horrible! Every program I have looked at for ADN and up requires at least a 3.0. I know that is the minium and that the higher the better! I also did a GPA calcultar and deteremined that I would have to take at least 1 1/2 years at 15 credits each semester and get As in all my classes to get a 3.0. At that point I would have have 98 credits. And I have to work full- time until I was in the nursing program! So with all this said, would I be better off going to LPN route and then work for some time and get RN? HELP please so lost! I want to be a nurse so bad just don't know the best way to go about it!

I would call the schools you are thinking about going to and explaining your situation. A low GPA, but then a track record of improving grades is going to look better than a good start and a bad finish.

Perhaps taking some classes to raise your GPA that would apply to a BSN program would help. Or, retake the classes you did poorly in to boost your GPA. Either way, I would contact the schools and then apply anyways unless they tell you there is no way they would let you in.
