Hello,
Does anyone know how many points are competitive for the admissions the Gtcc evening/weekend RN program. I have about 31-32 points? For those accepted how many did u have, and what about the wait list, how many did u have if u were on the wait list?

I have applied to GTCC with 51 points, the last drawing had alternates with 46-49 points and 50 + points got you straight to the course.

At your ranking appointment the counselor should be able to tell you the points from the previous semesters.

Does anyone know about their points system for the PN program? What is considered competive? And in some cases is it better to apply to the RN program since there are more points?

I believe I had 54 points when I applied for the Fall 2009 semester. I was put on the alternate list. I was alternate #10 and was later accepted into the program. I'd say at least half of my class were alternates. They got all the way up to number 43 and she was accepted like a week before the beginning of class last semester. I'm not sure how many points she had.

MotivatedOne,
Are you in GTCC's program right now? I just got accepted for Fall 2010, and was wondering what to expect the first semester. The admission packets says we take NUR 211, but doesn't explain what the course is. Does it involve clinicals? Are students able to work? I appreciate any input. :)

I was in the program last fall and ended up failing my pharmacology final which then brought my final grade down 2 points below the required 78 to pass the class.
I honestly couldn't tell you what to expect seeing as how they've changed the curriculum. Pharmacology and Intro to nursing are now combined. I was readmitted for this upcoming fall semester so you could be my future classmate.
Last summer during orientation we were told what to expect from the program and which section to sign up for. We had clinicals the first week of class. By then we hadn't even learned how to check manual BP's so basically we just gave bed baths.
Things were slow in the beginning but it wasn't long before they sped things up.
I worked three 12 hour night shifts a week while in the program. Was passing with low B's 90's 92's, 89's in the beginning but eventually lost my way. Just make sure you stay on top of things. That's pretty much the only advice I can give you. Hope in some weird way it helps.
Oh our uniforms are hideous. All white...yuck!
See you soon!

Hey, I just received my letter from GTCC and I am alternate number 26 for the Fall 2010 Day Program, what do you think the chances of me getting in are? Also, last year when you got in did they say why they had to go through so many alternates? Thanks for all and any information.
There were a few reasons they went through so many alternates. Those who were accepted were accepted somewhere else...mainly Forsyth Tech, and decided to go there instead. Some of the alternates didn't think they'd get in so they didn't send any of their information back in. Some changed their minds about nursing or maybe the timing wasn't right.
It didn't take them long to call and offer me a spot in the program. I'd say they got to my number like maybe 2-3 weeks after the physical, cpr and vaccination list were due. Try to remain positive...
Good luck!

They did the same thing for my group starting in Fall 2010 at FTCC. At least we don't have to pay for as many credits..
