PMHNP-therapy

So I am an newer PMHNP. I know it is within my scope of practice to perform and bill for therapy. I would like more education in this area. I am looking into going back to school for therapy especially sex therapy and LGBTQIA+ issues.

Has anyone else gone back to school for more education and experience in therapy? I'm looking for feedback and advice. I eventually want my doctorate and am debating between DNP and PhD in sexology. Or just starting out with an LGBTQIA sex therapy certificate program., before going back for my doctorate.

let's hear your thoughts. If anyone has gone back to school for more training in therapy Id love to hear about it.

I am also not asking if this is worth my time and money. Just about what would be the best course of action to get more education in this area. I am not looking to be a patient's dedicated therapist.

Hi there! I in PMHNP program and love therapy so also thought about getting further training. I wanted flexibility so looked into online programs with local internships, and the most convenient/cost effective I could find is University of Cumberlands Mental Health Counseling program, about $17K.  I heard about it from some therapists I had worked with in the past and they seem to to like it.   I don't think it's focused on sex studies though.  Right now, I'm leaning towards not doing further studies. I think I will do further training in the types of therapies I am most interested in, which is DBT--this way I can just go to where I need to get faster/cheaper.  And this is totally random, but I worked with a client years ago who was telling me about studying in this program and it just stuck in my head because it was unique.  Seems relevant to your interest. Good luck!
