Hi,
I am taking pre-requisites to get into a nursing program and was hoping some of you nurses wouldn't mind providing some feedback... I would really appreciate it.
I am hoping to get some honest advice about the schools below and their nursing programs. I am looking for any and all feedback... both positive and negative. Even if you didn't go to these schools yourself, I am curious as to what your opinion of them is within your profession and how you feel they stack up.... and how well they train their students. Thank you so much.

Hello,
Each school has it's own curriculum but they all abide by the nurse' association. I know about Quincy College from experience and on top of being cheaper, it is fair enough. No school has tests that everyone will pass but the part-time program teachers are good. They are some you'll question but so far so good for me in both the class and clinical setting. From what I have heard Massassoit classes are small and they seem to put in a lot for their students and but I have no details. Money wise, Bunker Hill is the best if you are living near Boston. Best of luck and hope you make the best choice.

Roxbury CC is super affordable for pre reqs and Simmons accepts a bunch of them including Stats.

I attended the MassBay evening ADN program...Some instructors (both clinical and classroom) are better than others. But I'm sure that is true for all schools.
Overall I think I got a good education there. I had 3 of my clinical rotations (med-surg, pedi, maternity) at Framingham Union, plus other rotations at Norwood Hospital (med-surg), Deaconness Needham (med-surg), Emerson Hospital (med-surg), Brigham and Women's (med-surg), Walden Behavioral (psych).
In terms of actual classwork, etc. All clinicals are either pass/fail and usually have at least 1 paper or teaching project per clinical rotation. The 4 nursing courses do not really have any assignments - so no homework or turning in papers, etc. Your course grade is 100% based on exams. The final exam is usually 40% of the grade and the rest is divided between a couple exams throughout the semester - either 4 at 15% each or 3 at 20% each.
I don't know what the prices are at the other schools - but MassBay for only the nursing courses at the evening rate was about $2,000-$3,000 per course. Plus all the pre-reqs and other degree requirements which are about $600-700 per course.
If you have any more questions or want to know something specific send me a message. What I would suggest is talking to someone in admissions and finding out what the waiting list is like at the schools you are interested in. Last I heard the MassBay waiting list is 3 years after you have completed all your pre-reqs.
Good luck!

I have nothing against Mass Bay. But be advised almost every community college has a "WAIT LIST" There are 2 types of Wait List:
1. The true Wait List, you complete your pre-reqs and get accepted into the program in say 2009 (Ball Park). Quinsigamond Community College operates like this.
2. The ITS NOT A WAIT LIST, competitive system, which Mass Bay has (which I don't think there is nothing wrong with it), but technically it is a wait list. Since you will have to wait, if you don't make the deadline to get into the program, or don't have a high enough GPA (I Forgot the requirements, for the GPA but it isn't out of site, its reasonable, Mass Bay doesn't like to publicly post information it seems, their web-site sucks, I will try to find my handouts from the Nursing Info session from Mass Bay). It is very confusing, more community college run like this.
Bottom line is do your pre-reqs, and be prepared to wait a little while.
Massosit has a weekend program also for Nurses.
