Okay, I'm not even into my BSN program yet...but I have some BASIC questions about CRNA's and SRNA's and different certifications....

I have seen people referring to SRNA and CRNA.....well what is a SRNA...I know what a CRNA is...

And what are all these certifications I see: (PALS

Do you have to have that before you are admitted to CRNA school?

SRNA= Student Nurse Anesthetist

PALS = pediatric advanced life support

ACLS = advanced cardiac life support

CCRN = certification in critical care nursing

Yes, you need all of them except CCRN, which is optional but helpful to have.

If anyone has time could you tell me how long/difficult it is to get all these certifications....?

I thought SRNA was something totally separate than CRNA and that if you wanted to be a CRNA then you just go to school for that...but if you have to be a SRNA first then how long does that take? Is that something separate from BSN school? For that matter is PALS, ACLS, and CCRN all separate from BSN school?

I know these questions may seem basic...but I am thankful of help.

a SRNA is one who is currently in an anesthesia program... Student Registered Nurse Anesthetist. PALS, ACLS, and CCRN are all certifications that you are able to get. Generally there might be some class hours involved, text reading, then you take a test and get the certification for it. That's for PALS and ACLS. CCRN is a little more involved. You must have a certain number of hours at the bedside in an ICU. You can find out more about CCRN at the American Association of Critical Care nurses website.
