PLEASE, I need advice for ARNPs with wxperience in cosmetic dematology

Published

Dear collegues, I am an ARNP in Florida. I am thinking about taking cosmetic dermatology courses such as botox, fillers, etc... but I do not have any idea about how it works. My idea is to open my own practice in the future, but I do not know how is the legal aspect to do that, and I do not know how to obtain all the information that I need in order to see how realistic my expectations are.

My plan is to work with a plastic surgeon or cosmetic dermatologist a couple of years to learn as much as I can about all procedures and how the office operates. Then, I would like to open my own office, but my questions are:

A

s an Cosmetic Dermatology or Aesthetic ARNP in Florida:

1) Do I need an associated MD?

2) What are the obligations for the associated MD?

3) How much is the commission that usually they get?

4) Can I buy botox, restylane etc...by my own with my ARNP license or I need the doctor to order those products?

5) Can I have a associated MD that is not a dermatologist or plastic surgeon (such as anesthesiologist, PCP etc.. who take the pertinent courses for the procedures) or they need to be strictly a derma or plastic?

6) Where can I get information regarding the requirements and steps to open that type of business?

Please, help me in this matter. I would love to start that business, but before taking any course, I need to have an idea and realize how feasible my plan is.

Thank you very much for your help. I will be waiting for your response.

LOVE,

ELENA, are you an NP currently? With all due respect, practicing NP's should already know they would need to first check with their respective state nursing board for legal/scope of practice aspects. You should also already know that NP scope of practice varies with each state.

Brownrise, you are correct, I am not actually working as an NP, but I will graduate next semester....Sorry!!!!!!!!!

I know that the board of nursing can provide me with different information including my scope of practice. However, any advice or information from you related to my previous message it is very welcome.

Thank you!!!

You definitely do not need the NP after your name to work in the field, but make sure that the physician that is there has the appropriate credentials and not just a weekend class or course in doing something. You want the plastic surgeon or the cosmetic dematologist behind you.

You definitely need to do much more research into this.
