Hi All,

I am a nursing student, I would like some info from the pros.

I need some clarification on Fetal Heart Monitoring.

Can someome break it down to me like I am two.

Having trouble understanding Accelerations and Decelerations.

That's a great site with good information and it is up to date. The problem is that many providers aren't up to date with the new terminology, which tends to change from time to time. What you end up is four people saying different things about the same strip. Strips aren't always "cut and dry" either. Sometimes 2 people will see two different things. One might say Category 2 and another 3 since it's not unusual for someone to disagree about whether to call a decel variable or late.

It takes some experience to be able to interpret strips well. For school learn what your book says, or the site since the info is good, but understand that you may not see that "book knowledge" translated quite as easily into practice.

Oh and when you're doing your OB clinicals look at as many strips as you can, think about how you would classify them and then check that against what the nurse you're following charted. The more you see and do, the more you'll learn.

you may want to give an idea to pulling strips off of the web, like the site i gave you...old strips from the hospital with patient info removed (get permission) and put them onto flash cards....really really helped me in school...
