please help!!

On our last day of peds clinical we have to do a teaching session to the rest of our clinical group, and pretend that they are parents and we have to teach them about whatever we were assigned. I was told to teach about ileostomy takedowns. I can't find any good information anywhere in my books, or online. Any suggestions about where I could go for info? I gotta have this done really soon and it's stressing me out!! I need some help! Thanks = )

i think your major hurdle is terminology in looking for information. an ileostomy takedown is also called a reversal or letdown. your other hurdle is knowing why temporary ileostomies are done in children in the first place. a takedown is a reversal of a "temporary" ileostomy (one that was never meant to remain permanently) that has been done "to provide the intestines with sufficient time to heal without the stress of normal digestion" (encyclopedia of surgery). in the stickys of this forum is a listing of helpful websites (https://allnurses.com/forums/f205/medical-disease-information-treatment-procedures-test-reference-websites-258109.html) which you should bookmark for future use and from which i obtained this list of links. an ileostomy, in general, is performed for cancer, ulcerative colitis, crohn's disease, or the presence of multiple polyps.

good luck with your project. the a.d.a.m. site (http://adam.about.com/surgery/maindex.htm) has lots of good anatomical pictures on it that you can copy for your presentation.
