Hi everyone:
I feel a need to take an on-line RN refresher course to go back to nursing again successfully. I left bed-side nursing care in 1995. Even though I went back to school and did a lot of nursing related things, those things were not direct nursing care. So, all nursing knowledge, skills, and everything else needed to work as an RN again to make my patients safe are long gone and I need them back really badly.
I have found a lot of refresher courses offered on-line and actually have no idea which one to choose from other than the one that requires hours of clinicals to gain my skill back (I don't even think I can give an IV now). My problem is I have no idea how to begin to find a preceptor. I live in Destin, FL, and there are only 2 hospitals and one community college that doesn't assist in finding a preceptor.
Should I start with the HR people or should I go to DON of the hospital (and how can I get to meet with the DON?)? I really have no clue. I would like to find a preceptor who agrees to precept me before enrolling in a refresher course (some institutions that require clinical hours even require the name and contact info of the preceptor before you can enroll).
If anyone can help or have something to share with me, I would deeply appreciate it.
Ladywhite :)
