Please help..questions regarding NCAT Accelerated nursing program

Published

Hey!! I am considering applying to ncat accelerated nursing program. I was wondering if there was anyone on here who had taken the program at this school? Any adive and info they can give me about it would be great. Also, any information on accelerated nursing programs would help regardless of school! thank you!!

i assume you're talking about north carolina agricultural & technical state university. i am an alumnus of a&t and i know for a fact that their accelerated nursing program just started in 2010, so the first class will not graduate until 2011. at this point they are only accepting 10 students, and you must possess a bachelor’s degree, have at least a 3.0 grade point average from previous degree program, and successfully complete chemistry with lab, nutrition, microbiology, abnormal psychology, growth and development, anatomy and physiology. winston-salem state university has a more established accelerated nursing program that accepts at least 45 students, and the gpa requirement is at least 2.6. any more questions feel free to ask!!!

Thank you!! I didnt know it was that new. I am curious how hard it is going to be.. I am guessing working too is out of the picture...

Anyone out there who has completed an accelerated nursing program?

I'm in an accelerated nursing program. What questions do you have?

Thanks for the reply, I am debating between the accelerated one year program or the two year Rn program. Would you reccomend the one year program? I am a good student and make good grades but I would also like to know the course load. Also, do you work and go to school?..just wondering if that was managable. Thanks

I don't have an outside job and I wouldn't recommend it. Personally, I feel like the accelerated BSN is a great option because it's quicker and really, the only main difference that I see is that you also go to school over the summer (and summer classes are loooong....3 hour lectures are not too fun), but fall and spring semesters are the same as traditional programs. Thus, if you don't mind not having summer off, then go the accelerated route! If you already have a bachelor's degree, you should get credit for it.

Thank you! I like the fact that it can be done in one year instead of two! So throughout the year is it like you go from 8-5 everyday?

I just finished the summer...we typically had about 6-7 hrs of class 3 days a week, one day off, and then 10 hr clinicals/lab on another day. Not sure yet how it will be in the fall semester, but I know it will be busier.

thanks for all your help! and good luck :)
