Please help.. friend copied my resume

Hi.. so Im in a dilemma here. I was being a good friend and I sent over my resume to a friend that needed help with resume. However, I just found out my friend copied a big chunk of my resume and only tweaked a few words here and there. I confronted them about it and asked to revise the parts they copied but I am afraid I lost my chance in getting future jobs for the hospitals we both applied to. I am saying this because I am getting job interviews for hospitals I only applied to but have not gotten any interviews for the hospitals my friend and I both applied to. Im not sure if this is a coincidence or what but I am afraid HR is seeing the similarities and may have thought I have plagiarized even though that is not the case.

So if anyone could help me out, I'm not sure what to do anymore except revise my resume now just to be on the safe side.

Thanks....

I think all new graduate nursing resumes probably sound fairly similar. If it's accurate for both of you, I can't see how it would be an issue.

I'm sure you've now learned not to give your work to others to "use". There are plenty of examples of resumes online that your friends can refer to if they need help.

Good luck with your job search.

I got asked to help out with resumes quite a bit by other students. All of the ones that I made or edited for people were purposefully designed to have just a little bit less razzle dazzle than mine. I am always willing to help people out and I think it's integral to the profession of nursing to function as a member of a team. HOWEVER, I watch my own back and ensure my own success first. I'm not sure why some people have issues with making them, but such is life. There will always be someone around who admires/envies your work and wants to take advantage of the good job you are doing. You win when you don't let it affect you. Change your resume formatting and add some sparkle, and have confidence in your superior interview skills. That's how I see it.

I know some other people answered this, but I started out at a NP/Physician recruiter. We could not care less if your resume looks the same as someone else's... it SHOULD. You should have the same work experiences/skills as the majority of new nurses out there and if you don't something is either really right or really wrong. We are looking for a specific set of skills combined with personality fit; they probably found someone before they got to your resume or it was underwhelming (for lack of a better word). Go to your school's writing center and ask them to look over your resume and jazz it up a bit. Good luck!
