#1. A patient who weighs 242 lbs is ordered to receive a heparin bolus of 50 units/kg IVP. How many units of heparin will you administer?

convert 242 / 2.2kg = 110 kg.

50 units x 110 kg = 5500 units of Heparin.

#2. Heparin is available 5000units/mL. How many mL's will you administer? (See previous question)

5500 units / 5000 units = 1.1ml

3. A heparin drip (25000units/250mL of D5W) is infusing at 13mL/hr. How many units/hr is the patient receiving?

units/hr = 25,000 units/250ml x 13ml/hr = 1300 units/hr

#4a. A patient is ordered to receive 500mL's of 0.9NSS over 30 minutes. At what rate will you set the pump? (mL/hr)

ml/hr = 500ml/30min x 60min/ hr = 1000 ml/hr

#4b.The pump malfunctions 15 minutes into the infusion so you decide to use a gravity set. You drop factor is 10gtts/mL. How many drops per minute will be required to deliver the bolus in the prescribed amount of time? :banghead: I am stuck on this part.

Thanks for your assistance!!!!!!!!!!:D

Okay after 15 min you have given 250mL so you need to give 250 more

250mL X 10gtts X = 2500 =166.7 gtts/min

15min......1mL..........15

round to 167gtts/min

Ok, in this one....you have only given 250.

so you go

250 ml(to give)/15 mins(time left in infusion) times 10gtts/1mL = 2500/15= 166.7...round to 167.
