Please advice on relocating to Chicago

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

Hi, I'm an OR nurse with a 1 year experience. I'm trying to move to chicago in a few months.

Is it possible to work as an OR nurse without a car? I don't want to own a car because I want to live in downtown.

Would it be easy for me to find an OR nursing job with my limited experience?

Does anyone know if there are any hospitals offering on OR graduate nurse preceptorship programs? (I don't mind starting all over again)

What are the convinient hospitals to commute without a car?

Is it easy to get an apartment nearby the hospitals in downtown?

What hospitals should I consider for OR nursing that don't require a BSN?

Thank you for your help.

Try NorthWestern Hospital its downtown. I've never tried to find an apartment downtown but hear its very expensive. Northwestern does have some housing for employees but I have no idea how long the waiting list is.

My standard advice for nurses relocating to Chicago is to look into Rush, Northwestern, and Children's Memorial Hospital.

I don't have any idea what their on-call requirements for the OR would be, or whether that would be compatible with using public transportation, but they are hospitals with good reputations and progressive environments.

Good luck to you!

Does anyone know anything about Loyola or University of Chicago? Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks

I live in downstate IL and did some ER agency shifts at Loyola in the ER in 2001-2002. Its an inner-city level one trauma center - lots of knife and gun club action. Pay was competitive even than - $46/hour.
