Hi! I took the nclex-RN exam for California last Feb 2008 but unfortunately I didn't pass.. Now im currently working however I plan to take the NCLEX-RN exam again after I finished my contract in the hospital which is in 2 years.. If I reapply on September 2009 and supposing I will get my eligibility at the end of that year. Will I have to take the test before Feb. 2010? Or will I have one year validity of my ATT? By the way the letter that they have send me said that my application will be considered abandoned and my file would be destroyed if I do not take the examination within 2 years from the date of my last examination. I was hoping that I could extend the validity because I plan to retake again by September 2010. Hope you guys would reply. Thank you.

They will not extend the time that your original application is valid for, if you do not test within the two years and pass the exam; then your file is destroyed. Does not matter to them that you wish to delay for whatever reason, that is purely up to you.
You are going to need to retest before the time period is up, and do be aware that even if you are reapplying, you are going to need to pay for the license again as well as the fee for the exam. If you do things after the two year time limit that you have been given, then you will be starting the process from the beginning, meaning submitting transcripts and license verifications all over again.
It comes down to the fact that you need to meet their requirements, they do not need to work around you.
