PlanB after getting kicked out of nursing program

Published

I was recently kicked out of my nursing program because i didnt meet the GPA requirements. I never failed any classes or nursing classes, didnt have to retake any as well. I was a first year college student and didnt know how to balance all these hard classes and needed to make sure i had a C+ or higher in all of my pre rec nursing courses. I obviously did meet those requirements, but because I got 2 C's and a C+ in non nursing courses my overall gpa was a 2.5 and my second semester gpa was a 3.1. I didnt meet the overall gpa requirement, I was .01 away. I wanted to know can i still become a nurse? Will it be harder to get into another program? I just dont know what i should do im very scared and need advice.

What you wrote doesn't make sense to me. If I understood correctly, you were doing prerequisites for a nursing program, and didn't get accepted in because your GPA was too low. Nursing is VERY competitive. A friend of mine got one A- and was denied into the nursing program. If I were you, I would retake those classes and get the best score possible, then apply again. Maybe even apply to other schools as well. If nursing is your passion and you work hard to get in, I'm sure everything will work out for you in the end. I wish you the best :)

It's true what they say about nursing being competitive. That was the first thing my advisor talked to me about when registering for prereq courses. She literally said, if you want to get into this program I suggest you work to get A's in all of your classes. I did just that, I had to sacrifice a lot of personal time just to earn this before even getting into the nursing program, which I start in the fall. I did achieve straight A's due to lots of hard work, and I'm just getting started! My kids even started to act like they missed me because I was so swamped with the school work throughout the year, that's not about to end for another two years while I take nursing, poor kids. I do make a point to make it up to them though :)

That said I have heard of many success stories of people retaking courses and getting those grades up. It's not over for you if you really want it. Almost all schools offer free student tutoring, and kahn academy has some nice videos to watch especially for those science courses that helped with my understanding of the material. Good luck!
