Places to Live in Jacksonville

Published

My husband and I are looking into moving to the Jacksonville area in about a year where, if I'm lucky enough to be accepted, I hope to attend nursing school. I am just wondering if anyone has any recommendations on safer, more affordable apartments/townhomes in the area, anywhere sort of near JU, UNF, or the beaches. I'm from out of state, and just trying to see what the possibilities may be. So far I have seen tons of apartments with either lower rent and negative reviews or positive reviews plus very high cost. I appreciate any insight that anybody has!!

Hello and an early welcome to Jax. :)

To answer your question: As far as locations go, the UNF & beaches area are pretty expensive. I also know that the beaches have problems with B&E, just not sure which areas are best/worst. What a lot of people do in Jacksonville is live further than from where they work/study, as it is much easier on the wallet. Jax overall is an expensive city to live in, even if not as expensive as other FL cities. It really depends on what your budget is and what you would like from the area you live in. Most places in Jax are pretty good to live in, some better than others.

I'll be happy to help if I can. :)

Thank you!!! :-)

What are some of the popular areas to live in for the people who choose to live further out? I'm not opposed to a longer commute as long as it isn't too ridiculous, preferably under an hour!! My main goal is to find a place that I can feel safe and also pay maybe $1000, $1100 a month max (though less would certainly be nice!). We will need to rent for the first year but should be able to buy a house after that.
