I have long been looking for an explanation of whether, when using the PIPP pain scale you use the actual gestational age or the corrected gestational age. I even saw this question referenced on this forum a couple of times. well whilst reading on the aboutkidshealth.ca site, who were involved in the devising of the scale, they clearly state that when assessing a premature infant, A newborn infant's pain intensity is
determined by measuring three behavioural
indicators (facial expressions) and two
physiological indicators (heart rate and level of
oxygen), and considering them along with two
contextual indicators (the child's gestational age
at birth as well as her sleep/wake state).
So I think that indicates that the gestational age at birth is used throughout the patients time in NICU and not adjusted according to corrected age
