The website says Pima CC offers their nursing core classes either exclusively during the day, exclusively during evening, exclusively during the weekend or a combo of these times. My question is are there any nursing students currently attending during only evening or weekends? I have been reviewing each past semester's schedule and can't tell if I can do this during the weekend or evenings. The clinicals never seem to have evening or weekend options. If you attending Pima nursing classes, please let me know what your schedule has been like. I am almost done w/ pre-reqs and will be submitting my application in fall 2009. Thanks in advance.

You've got a long wait ahead of you. It will probably change by the time you enter the program. I know the program has changed immensely since I had attended it.

I'm starting my first semester of nursing school at PCC in january...they advised us in nursing school when it comes to schedules, you have NO control. They said there are just too many students to allow preferences. There are 12 different schedules categorized into groups: A 1-4, B 1-4, C 1-4. I have schedule B4.
Every group letter (A, B, C) has the same schedule for lecture, pharmacology, drug calc, and skills i believe...but your clinical site and times for clinical are dictated by the group number (B1 goes here at this time, B2 goes there at that time, etc)....sorry if this is confusing, but just imagine how hard it was for them to construct this matrix with 100 students entering the program!
So...you may get in the evening class and you may not...it's just the luck of the draw! i hope this shed some light on how it works.

Thanks Matthew for the info. I thought the Pima catalog would be overly positive about the program.....Do you know if you can switch schedules with someone that got th evening classes? Good luck in January.

Hi,
I am thinking about applying to Pima for Nursing school. What is the wait like? I live in California and we are looking at around 3 years here. I am finishing up my Anatomy and Physiology right now. Any advice or insight into Nursing at Pima would be great! Thanks and good luck to you.
They are quoting 18 months to 2 years currently for the wait. But most of the local hospitals are in an unofficial hiring freeze so right now I don't know what could happen to the program. I have some friends that are getting in quicker though. One friend applied May 2008 and starting NS Jan 2009. But who knows....Whatever the wait I just hope there are jobs when we graduate........

There isn't a long wait at PCC at all right now. There are people in our Jan '09 class that applied after the summer '08 session ended. I was told 2 years back when I started in Fall '07. I applied to the program June '08 and started last week. It was only a summer and fall semester wait.
Also, you don't get to pick your schedule and you don't get to switch with someone else. You get what you get. Many of the coreq classes can be done at night/weekend/online but they aren't the NRS or HCA classes. Those classes would be the PSY, ECE, FSN, etc. They are moving people through fairly quickly, so having those done before you apply would be a benefit to you.
