PICOT question...is this right?

Hello all,

I've noticed there has been quite a few posts about PICOT questions. I wanted to add mine to the mix. I think I have it ok, but any pointers to "clean it up" would be appreciated.

*In families with infants, how does an educational intervention providing evidenced based information on the risks of measles, the efficacy of the MMR vaccine, and the side effects of the MMR vaccine, compared to no educational intervention influence the rate of families vaccinating within the CDC guidelines when conducted at the 9 month well child appointment?*

Does this sound ok? I wanted to do something in regards to social media and vaccinations but was having a difficult time coming up with a question and finding literature. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Hello all,

As it's written now it's not clear to me if the education is happening at the 9 m.o. visit, or the outcome measurement at that visit. Also, "how does xyz influence" might make it harder for one to design the study. There would be no way of knowing 100% a cause and effect relationship. It might make life easier for you if you said," what is the rate of MMR vaccination in patients whose family receive an educational intervention at the 9 m.o. visit compared to families who received routine education, within six months of the intervention." Something like that. The population as you have it would stay the same. Now you just have to collect the raw numbers and let the numbers speak for themselves.

I hope that helps.

Thank you very much. I never do well on making these things flow the right way. Your suggestion is much more clear. Thanks a bunch.

I'm glad you found it helpful. Be patient, it takes practice! I've been doing this for a while...it will get easier with time.
