picc lines in children

I WOULD REALLY LIKE INFORMATION ON PICC LINES IN KIDS AND INFANTS.I WAS TRAINED TO DO ADULTS AND ONE OF THE CRIETERIa on insertion was to measure UPPER ARM CICUMFERENCE 6 INCHES ABOVE THE INSERTION SIT. NO ONE SEEMS TO KNOW WHAT THE CRITERIA FOR CHILDREN AND INFANTS IS. IS THERE ANYONE THAT HAS THIS INFORMATION? THANKS

:nurse: I have did a few picc lines in children and infants when i worked peds icu a couple of times.Its been a while because I currently work adult ER and Sicu and helicopter, I live in st.louis, I think it is like 3 or 4 in. above insertion site I remember it being like half the adult size in pediatrics and like 2 in. in infants or about 1/4 the size. Hey could u give me some pointers im planning on moving to nebraska to work in a rural hospital I have gotten job offers from:

Box Butte General Hospital to be ER and ICU house supervisor in Alliance

Valley county hospital in ORD to be acute care supervisor

and McCook community hospital to work ER, ICU, and lifeflight, do u know are these hospitals descent to work for and will I get the change from big city to small town that i want.

I was born in Valley County Hospital :) I love Ord it is a wonderful town. Valley County Hosp has had some adminstration issues over the past yew years. Best of luck

The standard is to measure from elbow to "shoulder bone" and measure at the half way point between the two. I currently only place adult piccs (50+ a month) but this is the standard for measuring arm circumference since no standard amount can accomodate all arm lengths. :nuke:
