I have a question, I only have two pre-reqs left before I can apply to the RN program. Physiology and microbiology. Micro is not a pre-req, but they give you an extra point if you have it done. I'm nervous to take them both in the same semester as they're both 5 credit hours. This semester I took Chemistry, College Algebra, and Speech together and didn't do so well. I ended up getting two A's and C. Chem is not my strong suit. I had a B in anatomy. They're both sciences I like, but I do have two children who demand a lot of my extra time. I don't work though, I know it's doable. I'm just at a point I'm not sure if I could handle them both.
If you've taken them together, how did you do? Thank you!

I think microbiology is *hard*. My husband is a PhD Microbiology student, and I took Micro with two other classes, and it was a burden, it was hard, and it took a lot of my time studying (reading, reading, reading mostly). I will say I am GLAD I just did it (isn't that the way it always goes?) and got it over with. It is pretty ironic, but I really hated that class. I think it is the worst class I have ever taken. And my husband comes home and tells me all sorts of amazing, interesting things he is learning for his PhD - totally different than just plain ol Jane Micro. It's all rote junk - you just have to memorize to pass the class. I know some of it helps as we learn more and more, but honestly, most of that stuff you won't remember once you pass the class. I'd say do it, and get it over with, if you can make the time to do well.

I'm in my last week of this semester talking both together. It's not been too bad. Microbiology was definitely the most time consuming of the two. I've worked my butt off to keep an "A". I took them both for the same reason. I needed them both before I apply next month. I do work full time but I don't have any kids so I'm sure I have more time than others but I don't think it's impossible! Good luck!

Micro is annoyingly frustrating and time consuming. The material isn't that hard imo but memorizing and applying is really important. For physiology, some of the concepts can be challenging to understand unless your professor is great at breaking things down for you. I'd say, if you have great time management skills, you don't procrastinate, and you're good at coping with stress, taking those two together is very possible. It's just, many students don't have those three key skills, thus they fall behind and end up getting less than stellar grades.
ETA: If you are not determined or you aren't so sure of yourself, then just take one at a time. Or you can take two to test it out for the first few weeks, and if it's already too much, drop one and continue the other. It sets you back a semester but at least, you're doing it at your pace. No problem with that.
