Physical exam requirements for school entrance?

U.S.A. California

Hey guys, just wondering what schools look for in their physical exam requirements. Ive only taken a few entrance exams (LVN programs), and passed, now the next step is show my immunization records and get a physical.

What will get me turned down with a physical? I have some immunizations, but probably not all that are required. The last time I took a physical was 4 years ago, and I had a few problems (high cholesterol, increased liver enzymes) and to be honest, I probably am the same, or even worse. So before I commit money to many shots and a physical (I have no insurance, so im guessing ill be spending some $$) what is something that could result in them turning down my phsyical and being denied entrance.

Other than immunizations, our physical only required that you be healthy enough to do the job - be able to walk/stand for at least 8 hours, carry 20 lbs for 50 feet, squat, reach above and below shoulder level, kneel, stoop, a few other movements. They did require a hematocrit count and urine sample for proteins and blood, but that was about it.

The doctor just had to agree that you were mentally and physically able to perform basic nursing duties.

My humble opinion would be to work on getting healthier, but not give up on a dream if this is what you really want... Good luck! :icon_hug:

Also, check with your school, some have information on low or no cost physicals and possibly immunizations too!

Anyone else have any input?
