Does anyone have any advice on whether phlebotomy is a good job to have while waiting to attend and/or attending nursing school?
Thank you!:monkeydance:
I was a phlebotomist. I learned how to interact with pts, RNs, etc from every department in the hospital. I understand lab collection procedures, lab values and what happens in the lab and different lab departments. I found out the nursing program I want to attend doesn't teach phlebotomy at all. Oh and I know that ABGs are resp. not the lab!! I learned a lot and it has helped with pre reqs, and hopefully with NS.
What's ABGs and NS? How long was your phlebotomist program? I'm not sure where to start looking for a good phlebotomist program. That isn't too long and expensive.
I live in redding as well and was told the only program in town is at shasta college. I called and they charge 3k for it, which seems a bit high to me. I am low income so i am looking for a program that can help with that, I am now looking in sac and sf :/ wish there was something closer!
I am glad to see someone else interested in this also. My school has a phlebotomy certificate program even though our state doesn't require it. I start my CNA class in a couple of weeks but was also thinking of taking the phlebotomy class to increase my marketability and just for experience.
