Phlebotomy question

Nurses General Nursing

Hi everyone!

This is a question for all of you nurses out there. I am working on a research study and we have to collect blood samples. Our phlebotomist is not going to be around for a few months (until the study starts), so I can't ask them questions.

We need to test for fasting lipids, fasting plasma glucose, serum creatinine, CK, K, ALT (or AST). What tubes (stopper colours) do we need for these tests?

Thanks!

It sounds odd to me that there is no one in the research study that you can ask this question of. When any of our patients are enrolled in a clinical trial, one of the staff drops off a very specific biohazard bag with the lab tubes needed, the time they need drawn, and the contact number to call once the labs are obtained.

Please contact either your lab or the clinical trial before drawing any blood.
