Philly Accelerated BSN programs

Nursing Students General Students

Hello all!

I'm back. I had been here about 9 mos ago and I was going to an accelerated BSN program in philly area, well I got a new job so I decided to stick it out and figure out if nursing was really what I wanted to do. Well I'm back and thinking of nursing again. I know alot of you were in the philly TJU and programs. How did things turn out? Anyone just starting? When does the drexel program start? TJU? Trying to figure out deadlines. Also what was the costs of the programs? Since they aren't a full year, I heard they have different tuition requirements? Any help ... looking to get back in the swing of things!

Thanks!

Hi

I went to the program. I finished in Septemeber officially graduated last week. It was a ROUGH year. You kind of abandon everything for the year but it was all worth it (for me). I have a job and took my boards today as a matter of fact. I have one friend that did Jeff. I know Penn has one too and so does Villanova now, (14 months).

Cost- Drexel was $20,000-over 4 quarters. I did not think that was a bad price but it is all within 1 year so it is expensive in that time frame but if you said $5000 a semester it does not seem as bad. There are certainly plenty of dollars out there to help off set the price (after you pay it of course-or incur the debt).

Drexel now runs two programs a year- Sept and March.

Good Luck.

Glad to see you back Mshheaddoc. I also just graduated from , and I started my new job today. The Drexel program is really tough-- it's not really that the information is all that hard, it is the sheer volume of information and the short period of time you have to learn it in. It was very, very time consuming. We were the second class to go through and it was still a little disorganized, but they asked for feedback from the students at the end, so hopefully as each class goes through more of the kinks will be worked out. In the end, I would say it was definitely worth it. Would I do it again? Absolutely.

Well I'm actually looking to do 's program. I am either going there or TJU for the 2 year program. I am in the process of trying to figure out what will work financially. Whether sucking up the one year or getting a part time job and doing the 2 year route. Also, did you feel adequately prepared after just one year of school? I'm so nervous about the ACE program b/c I heard everyone talking about how people were dropping out left and right. I consider myself highly intelligent, but those drop out rates were HIGH! Also, does anyone know of a waiting list forming for either TJU or Drexel? Anyone from Udel's accel program?

I'm almost positive there's a waiting list for 's program. Yeah, we lost about 40% of our class. Some flunked a class and others dropped out to do a less time consuming program elsewhere. I don't think many people knew how involved it would be. I would say that being dedicated to finishing is more important than being smart. You just have to give it your all for a year. Several people in the program had small children, I have no clue how they did it.

I agree with Emeraldnyl. I think it is a matter of dedication. There are people we lost because of not passing- but if you are not doing the work and not coming to class isn't that more an issue of dedication and not "smarts"? I also know the class behind us has NOT loss nearly what we had loss at this point. Between 2nd and 3rd we loss an additional 20%- they loss not even 10%. Maybe the program is screening better? I just do not know.

Preparation. I am ready for work- I feel prepared for orientation. Clinically, I know if I am shown certain skills I can pick them up- I just need the exposure. Assessment I feel I have strong skills that were the foundation for my education. I passed my boards on the first try with the fewest number of questions. So they must have done something right!

Good Luck- it is a difficult decision.

Thanks, I think I'm going to apply to the program and the 2 year TJU program and see where I get in, if I get in at TJU and wait list on drexel, I'll just take the TJU program. I just want to get in and get started. So depressing, I wish I would have started this fall ... instead I found a new job.

Hi there!

I am new to this site so I hope you can all bear with me. ( I actually hope I can find my way back to see who posts) :-) But anyway, I just began an accelerated program at Edinboro University in PA. It is a lot cheaper if you are a resident. I think around 12,000 and it takes place over the course of 3 semesters (with a summer off). I love it but just be aware that it takes up about 95% of your time. But if you truly love it you will do it! Good luck! and i hope that helped

Actually I also just heard of an Accelerated program being started at UMDNJ in spring 2004 or fall 2004.

I'm in the 2 year accelerated program at TJU

How is that going? I was looking at that! Do you have time to work as well? Do you know anyone that works as well? Thanks!
