Hi, I wouldn't consider myself hired if they haven't discussed salary. Don't sell yourself short. I work corrections at a state prison (MD) and actually enjoy it. I'm probably safer at work than anywhere else. Now, if a riot were to occur I might feel differently, but last one was early 90's. If they start discussing schedules and paperwork, I would politely mention that without disclosure of the pay, you cannot move forward. Do not work a single day without knowing your pay!!!!!!!!
Thank you for the advisebut what do you think about working at this place as a new nurse? Is it good area to get some experience?
Many people recommend that you don't work corrections as a new nurse. Where I work, we had a new nurse start shortly after I did and she has been wonderful. She really knows her stuff. She had worked as a CNA at a hospital while in school, but I don't know that that has contributed to her success. If you are excited about the job, try it. If you feel that your license is in jeapordy, quit. I can't believe that it has taken that long to find a job in Philly. I would have thought the market was much better for nurses. We went the Philly for our first time last weekend and fell in love with the Reading Market!!!!!!!!

Hi all,
I am a new nurse who doesn't have any nursing experience beside the nursing school. I have been looking for a job for almost 2 months and yesterday I was hired by philadelphia detention center. I am excited that i have finally a job but at the same time i am nervous because of the security and inmates. They did not want to discuss the salary, at this point i really dont care about the money but it seems a little weird.
Has anyone worked here? is this good place to start off? will i learn anything at this place?
