Does anyone have suggestions for PDA software to use in the OR? Students at my school are currently using LexiComp. My class was asked last week to make some other suggestions. What are you guys using? Are you happy/unhappy with it?

NMB IVP,
I am starting @ U. of Cincinnati in Sept. '08.
I am glad you started this thread--I just want to expand on it to add a few more questions:
1)Separate PDA and separate Cell vs. integrated smartphone/PDA phone?
--I have a hx of being pretty hard on cell phones and I am not sure I dig the idea of having all those eggs in one basket, but then again I question the wisdom of carrying two devices around vs. one...but again, I think I could easily get 27 months or more out of a mid-grade PDA and just get the cheaper/free phone I can upgrade/replace every two years (BTW I have to go with Verizon b/c there is a tower in the hospital at UC).
2)Windows Mobile or Palm OS?
3) I am guessing that LexiComp is alot more comprehensive than Epocrates???
Any advice would be appreciated...

My favorite is SOTA--Sota Omoigui's Anesthesia Drugs Handbook..I use it every day. I also on occasion use the Manual of Anesthesia Practice. I have Lexi-Comp and use it on occassion but don't particularly like it. My initial go-to however is SOTA. I use a separate PDA (Palm) for all my anesthesia/medical softwares in an aluminum case as it gets pretty banged up throughout the day...not a good environment for a phone if you ask me but just my opinion

I have just about every PDA program available that focus on anesthesia...over 20.
The best ones I've found are:
1) Soto's guide (because of it's anesthesia focus/pharmacology sect)
2) Either Barash, MGH, or Nurse Anesthesia Pocket Guide
3) A dictionary....I like Tabers best (Stedman's is divided into 2 sect)
4) get either Dr Drugs or a Nursing Drug Handbook.
So 4 basic needs. Soto, Dictionary, other DrugGuide, and a clinical guide like Barash or MGH. For a Handbook, get Ezekial..cheap/small, but beware it will fall apart in the binding
Hope this helps.
