Pharm Question

Published

I have a friend in her last semester of Nursing, she said it was important to be memorizing drugs now. I have many lists from Nursing 1 with all the drugs we covered but I just wondered if there was a better way to go about learning these. I saw another post about Mosby's Memory cards or maybe it was a book. I just wondered if anyone can shed light on how they learned the drugs. Thanks for your help! I want to stay ahead of this game!!

Try just learning the endings. Obviously just the endings for Pharm class is not good enough. But for general practice my preceptor said it is ok.

like pril, cillin etc...

Yeah, try using the endings of the names of the drugs if you can... like the above post said with "pril"... also "lol" are beta blockers. Focus a lot on your cardiac drugs, know if they're alpha 1, beta 1, etc. (beta-blockers, anti-arrhythmic drugs like amiodarone, digoxin) Know your diuretic drugs for CHF and so forth. Realize that the "mycins" are hard on your kidneys. Know the common psych meds too (sorry, I can't remember enough to be any more specific w/ those...)

Hope that helps a little. Good luck!
