Pervy patients?

Nursing Students CNA/MA

I work in a nursing home, and am no stranger to inappropriate comments. I'm always straightforward with my residents and let them know that their comment was inappropriate and not appreciated.

But. Today one of my male residents asked me point blank if my chest was all natural or fake, which really ****** me off. I told him I wasn't answering that question because it was none of his business. To which he responded, well you didn't answer my question: fake or natural? At this point I snapped that the question was inappropriate and finished his cares in silence.

How do you deal with inappropriate/Pervy patients or residents? I feel bad that I lost my temper and snapped at him, but he wouldn't leave it alone.

I do know that one important thing was to document the behavior, and I failed to do so. Other than that, things I could have done differently?

A few times I have said in the deepest voice I can, "I used to be a man." That throws them for a loop.

Lol!! This one made me laugh. Maybe I'll try that technique if I ever get any patients like that, hee.

Sometimes it does not even matter what your gender is. I am a male and there is a certain resident that will grab you the entire time ADL's are being done. The ladies on the unit were all happy when I came because they thought he wont grab you becasue your a guy. I go in and low and behold the patient is grabbing my butt. In his case I think he just hates everyone who comes in his room so he does something he thinks will get them to leave sooner. Anyways at my facility we can report something until we are blue in the face. The unit managers or whoever may try to fix the problem but either way we are whats called a last resort or last stop if you will. Being as that is we dont have the opportunity to transfer patients who get out of line or do not conform, but I still put a smile on my face and get it done. Just a part of being a CNA I guess, but hey at least I got a 5 dollar gift card at christmas to make it all worth it. lol
