Personal clinical goals, ideas?

Published

In clinicals we are given our assessment forms, they contain strangths, needs and goals. At the moment I think that i have so much to learn, but i don't want to discuss it with whoever will be my preceptor because i don't want them to think im incompetent. I want to learn about medications, dressings, post operative care. Medications: why give them, what conditions, side effects, contraindications etc. Dressings: why use dressing a instead of dressing b. Post op care: when to moblise, pain relief, patient education, splinting. I just feel like everyone else in my class knows all of this information already and i just go along with it.

How would you approach the situation of discussing the learning goals with your preceptor?

Thanks!:sniff:

tell the preceptor you want to learn about medications, dressings, post operative care. medications: why give them, what conditions, side effects, contraindications etc. dressings: why use dressing a instead of dressing b. post op care: when to mobilize, pain relief, patient education, splinting. otherwise, how is this person going to know what kinds of opportunities to specifically look for for you? the preceptor is liable to think you are aloof and believe you know everything. there is nothing wrong with being in the same boat as everyone else. pick out one specific type of patient and their care and list everything connected with that as a start.
