How long after the insertion of a new tenckoff cath can a pt receive peritoneal diaysis? I had a patient who was started the same day of surgery. Is the drainage actually urine or peritoneal fluid???

ideally the peritoneum should be used after 4 weeks or more after techkoff cath insertion. but some doctors use the peritoneum immediately. and the drainage is peritoneal fluid.

That depends highly upon whether you are talking to a nephrologist or the surgeon.
Also taken into account is the fill vollume. You can build up over a few weeks.
