Hi,

I am interested in becoming an OR nurse in Ontario and was wondering what continuing education options there are in the GTA area. I am leaning towards the Mohawk College Perioperative Nursing Certificate but it does not specify the duration of the studies, only the courses and course hours are listed. What is the average duration of studies for these programs and does anyone recommend a specific college for this certificate?

Are you currently working in a hospital? If so, ask the OR nursing manager where most of the hospital's OR nurses obtained their certificate.

I know the Conestoga one is 8 months, 2 semesters, full-time. Not sure about Mohawk but it's likely similar.

No, I am a new RPN grad. Does the certificate programs require work experience for admission?

I don't know, but it is possible that some instructors and clinical preceptors might prefer to have students who are likely to be hired into, or are newly hired into OR positions.
