Periop 101 is not required to work in the OR. It's more of a method of orientation that lasts 6-9 months depending on the facility. What you should look into is the orientation program where you're currently working. If they expect you to be able to do things in 6 weeks, run. If their orientation lasts 6 months, go for it! Usually other hospitals don't take nonemployees into their periop 101 because of it being their orientation. Plus, policies are facility specific, so some of what you learn won't transfer.

Hi,
I am working in preop in an out patient surgery center. I am interested in going into the OR. Is there any periop training program available in the bay area?I saw periop 101 in AORN website but i understand that the hospital has to be registered with AORN. My surgery center is not registered for that. Is there possibility for doing periop 101 course in some other hospital/center registered with AORN for periop 101? Please advise......
