Hello! Has anyone ever taken a peri-Op course offered by a community college? I can't find an OR job right now, and I would like to do something rather than wait for a job to open up. The course is 2 semesters long. The first is lecture and the second semester is lecture plus clinical at a local hospital (students are in charge of finding their own clinical spots). Its Peri-Op101 certified, which is the curriculum local hospitals use.
I just dont know if its worth it. I also dont know if a hospital will make me sign a 2 year contract after I took a year of OR classes!
I dont know. What do you think?

Let me preface this by letting you know that I'm a career changer in my last semester, but we do share one thing: we both want to work in the OR!
Maybe you can join the local chapter of AORN, (or an E-Chapter if there isn't a physical meeting spot close to you), and float the idea to some fellow nurses (and hopefully charges or nurse managers)? Can you contact someone through their mentor program to get some firsthand advice? Does the school offer an information session where you can meet some of the faculty and perhaps some of the former students?
I'd be a bit concerned to find my own clinical sites for a surgical program; from my experience, it's one of the most difficult places in the entire hospital to get some extra time as a student. Iron out those details if you take a closer look!
Best of luck with things!
