Per Diem Jobs

Hi:

I'm an RN and I'm applying for Per diem positions. I've been told that as a Per Diem I have to work some shifts in certain time so I can keep my position with the hospital. Do you know how this works? How many shifts in what period? Does it varies?

Thanks

Every place is different. You need to ask more specific questions of your prospective employer/supervisor. They should have written P&P on this, if they don't - don't take the job.

Where I work you need to work at least 12 hours in a pay period. That works out to a minimum of one shift every 2 weeks.

The amount required varies. Make sure you know before you apply.

Specializes in med-surg, teaching, cardiac, priv. duty.

Like another post said, you need to ask the specific hospital that. Every place may have a slightly different protocol. They should have a written policy. At my last hospital, You had to work at least 24 hours a month to stay prn. Did not matter when you worked the 24 hours. (If you skipped 3 weeks and did not work, and then worked them in the last week, that was fine. Etc.)
