I became a candidate for the RN program at PSC June 2013 and was told my projected start date was Jan 2015.

Then I received a letter that said I would start Fall of 2014 instead and I was ecstatic. Imagine how upset I was when 2 months before the semester was going to start, I got another letter saying I was going to have to wait until Jan 2015 again because they decreased their class size.

Then 2 months later I received ANOTHER letter saying that I no longer met their newly reformed requirements and that I should consider a different major and new career options.

I was devastated.

I hadn't received any kind of notification that the school was reforming or changing their requirements. I had already waited so long and used up all of the time I had on my scholarship waiting to join this program only to be told I would not be grandfathered in and I was longer eligible for the program I had already been unofficially accepted in to.

I retook the HESI and did much better and met with the department countless times demanding answers and results. I kept being told there was nothing better I could do and that I would have to just wait, one woman even started crying and could not understand why I hadn't been accepted yet.

I began working as an ER Scribe just for the experience and applied for several other schools.

Then, miraculously, I got the acceptance letter for May 2015 that I had been dreaming of for so long.

Their program is COMPLETELY reformed because of their previous 80% fail rate on the NCLEX exam, they have all new teachers and teaching styles and much smaller class sizes, hopefully these changes will make the difference they intended.

My advice to new PSC applicants- make sure you get ABOVE 90% on ALL components of the entrance HESI and make sure you take your HESI ASAP, do not wait!

Don't get anything below a B in any pre-req, they're simple classes as long as you do the work and you will screw yourself with a less than impressive GPA.

Get some experience while you wait because you WILL wait. Volunteer, become a scribe because they are always hiring, and just do whatever you can to get a real life experience in the clinical setting.

Make sure this route really is for you because the road is long and very hard.

Pretty much the same thing happened to me in July 2014. I took the Hesi after being done with all of my other classes only to be told I didn't have enough points to get in. I repeated a class and retook the Hesi twice and was recently told that I might be able to get into the night/weeknd program with the 17 points I have. I have also visited the nursing dept many times and I'm waiting in hopes to receive an acceptance letter this month. How many points did you have to get in? Also, who did you speak with in the nursing dept?

I can't remember exactly, but when I attempted to get in last year I had a total of 19 points. Billy in advising told me that they were only accepting those with 21 points and that I should keep trying to change my major. :/ Instead, I'm going through an LPN program and then trying again, hoping that makes a difference. The road is definitely long and can be challenging!

SML456, I'm in the Night/Weekend program. I got in with 17 points. What Billy told you isn't true, you can get into the day program with 20(not 21) points. Billy is the same person I spoke with that told me I wasn't able to get in...I went to see an advisor several times and I finally got accepted. My advice is to not speak with Billy anymore if you can avoid it.

Does the Lpn to RN program wear the same uniforms as the RN students? If so is anyone giving theirs away? I'm the smallest size that they make.
