Pensacola jobs

Does anyone know if Sacred Heart in Pensacola has annual job fairs or anything similar for RNs? I'm looking to network before moving down there. I know a lot of times they advertise the fairs to local schools.

Thanks

They had one recently (that I missed) and I e-mailed them to ask when the next would be and she didn't give me a definite answer. However, she did say they were once a year.

I'm doing my preceptorship there now.

How did you like your preceptorship there ? Im moving to that area from Ft lauderdale soon and hove no idea what the hospitals are like up there or if they're even hiring new grads in the area

Have you visited before? It will be a big change from Lauderdale...totally different mindset of people in Pensacola. I was raised in Pensacola and am one of those that couldn't wait to get out. I left in 2005, moved back last year for 7 months just to see if my feelings had changed, felt the same...couldn't find a job, and left again. The beach is beautiful, and that's about it. I'm much happier elsewhere, but it is personal preference. My family for example, loves it and can't imagine living anywhere else. Sacred Heart is the nicest of the 3 in Pensacola. It's a very pretty hospital. It is not a level one trauma center, but it is the go-to for the area. My internship was in the PCU there and I learned a lot. There was an RN there who did her clinical on the PCU and got hired. So it's not impossible as a new grad, but it didn't work out for me at the time. Hopefully it will for you ;) Fortunately my preceptor floated a lot and I got to see quite bit of the hospital. I remember really liking the cardiac floor (8th), but they weren't hiring new grads. I also floated to neuro (4th I think), and that floor was VERY busy, but cool. The PCU ratio was 1:3-4 and the other medsurg floors were 1:6. I floated to a few others, but they weren't as exciting or memorable for me. Which floor are you interested in working? I had a few calls from West FL but they are a StaRN hospital and those programs have a really bad rep. Seriously, research those if you are considering West FL Hospital. Also interviewed at Baptist which is in the ghetto area and their patient population is a bit different than Sacred Heart. Also not the best rep, but a hospital nonetheless! The nurses told me that the starting salary for new grad BSN was $24 hour at Sacred, and $23 at Baptist. When I interviewed for the StaRN at West FL, they wanted to pay me $15/hr:cautious: & they wanted me to commute 2 hours to panama city. What a joke that was.

I work at baptist and wouldn't leave it to work at the other 2 hospitals in Pensacola. West Florida is run by HCA and Sacred by Ascension.. Neither local. I love my ghetto baptist.. Never a dull moment!
